授業方針・テーマ Course title: Freshman Seminar
Theme: [Human Brain and Behavior]
Instructor: Kanae Ando

Course description: The brain is the seat of intelligence, interpreter of the senses, controller of behavior, and our humanity. We just began to understand how brain work, or does not work, in health and disease. In this course, students will work in pairs or in small groups to choose the topic, research and give a presentation regarding human brain. At the end of the course, the best presentation will be selected by students. Please note that this course will be given entirely in English.

目的・到達目標
Course objectives: Students will identify own research theme regarding brain functions and conduct research through reading articles and literatures. Students will develop critical thinking skill through research and following group discussion. Group research and presentation and evaluation of the presentation by other groups will help students to develop skills of collaboration, presentation and giving constructive feedbacks to others.

At the end of this course, students should be able to develop;
-Communication ability
-General ability of problem thinking
-Logical thinking ability
授業計画・内容
授業方法
Course format: Discussion, research and presentation.This course will be conducted using Zoom / other online resources in 2020 while limitations of the corona-virus persist.

The basic workflow will be:
general opening discussion on the theme -> assignment of groups -> deciding research topic -> group research -> presentations. Regular lectures will be conducted during this work flow.

授業外学習 [Out of class activity requirement] Homework assignment, such as reading articles and write short reports, will be given. Research outside of class will be also required.
テキスト・参考書等 Reading materials may be distributed in the class.
成績評価方法 Grade: Class attendance and participation 100%. With regular attendance and participation, 4 points will be given. Additional points may be given depending on class participation and presentation.
