詳細情報
授業方針・テーマ In this course, students will gain knowledge and fluency in English at a formal level, beyond conversation and involving English required to give speeches, make reports, and conduct presentations. Students will acquire English at a level which will allow them to attend English lectures and conferences and give presentations in English with confidence.

Students preparing for high-level external English exams such as TOEFL, TOEIC or IELTS will be given training on how to comprehend questions quickly and accurately and how to give appropriate responses and answers.

習得できる知識・能力や授業の
目的・到達目標
Students will improve English situational alertness, comprehension, and fluency in a wider range of situations and get used to speaking formally with a low rate of errors. By improving pace and rhythm with practice, students will gain confidence and an international, interactive style of English for use in formal situations.
授業計画・内容
授業方法
This course will be conducted using the same format as the spring session, but no contents will be repeated. Continuing students will benefit from further training in formal English usage, and new students will be stimulated by acquaintance with high-level English.
Each lesson is a self-contained lesson and lessons are formed into units. The lessons are designed for the specific needs and goals of the attending students each year.

One example is the lesson on Dubai chocolate as a marketing scheme to promote a country and Arabic sweets in general, with the caveat that the sweets often contain ingredients including potential allergens which are not listed on the label. Students discuss the Sun newspaper article headlines and contents about Dubai chocolate and relate their own experience, creating and presenting essays.

Another example is the lesson quick writing, required for the IELTS test. Students are given an article about Moai, the Easter Island structures. Students write quick essays which are scored for completeness and present their essays to the class, taking questions.
授業外学習 Students are required to finish writing materials they prepared roughly in class, to be turned in the following week. Students are sometimes asked to check something of interest outside the classroom such as the availability of Japanese sweets in convenience stores, the number of public telephones remaining in an area, or report about their activities over New Year's for example. Students are expected to relate outside work with classroom discoveries and disciplines.
テキスト・参考書等 This course, to remain flexible and adjust to the needs of the students, does not have a fixed textbook. Prints and images are used for student exercises in a logical progression. Themes are chosen for relevance and to stimulate particular grammar or critical thinking.

成績評価方法 Each classroom assignment or homework project receives an A+ (Great) A (few mistakes, paragraphs, good sentences, good contents) B (not so much writing, simpler sentences where complex sentences would be better, some mistakes) C (Just enough to get through, contents understandable but obscured by errors and by not writing enough English to make the ideas clear). Assignments are judged overall at the end of term.
